TWU FINDS INTENSITY TO SPLIT WITH SOSU
DURANT, Okla. – Intensity and a strong outing from Lindsy Russ-Keller resulted in a doubleheader split for Texas Woman’s University at Southeastern Oklahoma State.
The Pioneers (8-15) dropped the first game, 3-1, before winning game two, 1-0, over the Savages (20-4).
“In game one, we lacked intensity. We had runners in scoring position,” head coach Marty Blowers said. “The difference between the first and second game was intensity. We found it in every inning of game two.”
Southeastern jumped on TWU starter Ashley Martin early. Kylie Ferguson led off the game with a Savage home run for the early 1-0 lead.
TWU scored its lone run in the sixth inning. Sarah White started the frame with a single and advanced to third base. Amber Brooks notched a two out RBI single to score White.
Russ-Keller pitched a five-hit complete game shutout in game two. The junior recorded a strikeout to improve to 2-5 this season.
“We did a lot of things very well. First and foremost, Lindsy pitched all seven innings. She dominated and had her best outing of the year,” Blowers said. “Lindsy and Amanda (Danesi) were better at controlling the 1-2 and 0-2 counts.”
The offense provided the run support in the fourth inning. With one out, Sherman singled to left field. Amanda Arnold followed with a base hit. Then Sherman advanced to third and Arnold was out at second on a Krystyna Sims fielder’s choice.
With two outs, Rachel Johnson singled to score Sherman. White flied out to end the inning.
“We also had some big plays. Amanda (Emory) threw a runner out at home late in the game. Rhonda also made a diving catch in foul territory,” Blowers added. “Offensively we out hit them. It was a very nice win for TWU and a full team effort.”
Next, TWU starts a four-day Spring Break trip at the St. Edward’s Tournament with a game on March 11 against the Hilltoppers at 9:00 a.m.
