DENTON , Texas – The Silver, Maroon and White squads competed against each other at the Texas Woman’s University annual Intrasquad meet.
The Pioneers competed on the vault, uneven bars and balance beam with the top three scores counting towards the team tally. White won the competition with a score of 82.850, followed by Silver (82.750) and Maroon (80.200).
“I have to say without a doubt in all intrasquads this team was the most prepared at this point. I was impressed with our aggressiveness and level of difficulty,” head coach Frank Kudlac said. “The team cohesiveness was also very pleasing.”
Sophomore Nicole Poling won the all-around competition with a 27.750. Brisa Fuentes finished second (27.450) and Kelsey Nixon third (27.350).
On vault, Fuentes and Nixon tied for first place with a 9.550 mark. Junior tri-captain Courtney Arno won the bars and beam crowns. She posted a 9.650 on the bars and a 9.700 on the beam.
TWU had four athletes exhibition on the floor including Fuentes, Nakia Westbrook, Amie Boles and Poling. Fuentes and Westbrook both recorded scores of 9.200.
“We had some outstanding performances. When I tell an athlete that’s the best I’ve ever seen them look this early, that is exciting,” Kudlac added. “Fuentes did a good job and Poling had the best beam routine of her career. The leadership of the seniors and captains was important. Overall, it was good to see where we are and need to be.”
The Pioneers begin the regular season on Jan. 15 hosting a quadrangular meet with Utah Stat, LSU and Centenary. The meet features a special performance by Brave Combo, including a pre-meet show at 1:00 p.m.
