GYMNASTICS SIGN TWO FOR 2007 SEASON
DENTON , Texas – Texas Woman's University announced the signing of Lindy Hickman and Leslie Pladson to National Letters of Intent today.
“We are very excited to bring in two new additions for 2007 in the early signing period. Both young ladies are quality Level 10 gymnasts and also very good students,” TWU head coach Frank Kudlac stated. “We set a goal to recruit strong all-arounders and they both meet the criteria. Lindy and Leslie both have the ability to contribute right away on all events when they get here.”
Hickman joins the Pioneers from Parker, Colo., and the Peak Athletics Plus Gymnastics Team. She was a Level 10 Regional Qualifier in 2005 and finished 14 th in the all-around. As a Level 9 gymnast, she was the regional bar champion and placed fourth in the all-around. Hickman is an honor roll student at the Monte Vista Online Academy. She enjoys photography, horse back riding, dance, choreography and teaching gymnastics.
“Lindy is the third member of the team from Colorado (joining freshman Brittany Parker and sophomore Nicole Poling). She comes in with a very strong work ethic. Currently she trains 32 hours a week,” Kudlac said. “She is a powerful gymnast with the grace and beauty required for the college level.”
Pladson hails from West Fargo, N.D., where she competed for the American Gold Gymnastics and Upper Midwest Barefoot Club squads. In 2005, she placed 10 th on the beam and 16 th in the all-around at the Regional IV Championships. She also won the state vault competition and finished third in the all-around. Pladson has qualified for the Level 10 regional championships for the past three years. She was the state all-around and balance beam champion in 2003. Pladson is a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council. Her hobbies include reading, barefoot waterskiing, going to the lake, lifting weights, running, shopping and hanging out with friends.
“Leslie’s strengths are beam and vaulting but she really displays no weak event,” Kudlac said. “We expect her to excel in the all-around.
The Pioneers, led by seniors Amber McMeans, Bethany Rehm and Nakia Westbrook, will host their annual Intrasquad Meet on Dec. 2 at 7:00 p.m. and open the 2006 season at home on Jan. 15 with a 2:00 p.m. quad meet against Centenary, LSU and Utah State.
