TRIO SELECTED TO LEAD PIONEERS
DENTON , Texas – In a vote by the team, seniors Bethany Rehm and Nakia Westbrook along with junior Courtney Arno were selected as captains of the 2006 Texas Woman’s University gymnastics squad.
In 2005, Rehm was a mainstay on the uneven bars with a season-best score of 9.875 in a dual meet with Utah State. She is a three-time National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women Scholastic All-American.
Westbrook competed on the vault and floor exercise for the Pioneers last season. She recorded a season-high score of 9.750 on the vault three times. On the floor, Westbrook registered her best score of the year with a 9.875 against USU.
Arno led TWU on the bars and balance beam as a sophomore. She tied the school record on the bars with a 9.925 performance in a dual meet with USU. Arno had her best beam showing of the season against Auburn with a 9.875. At the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships, she had a solid meet finishing third on the bars and seventh on the beam in the individual finals. Arno earned USAG All-American honors in both events. In addition, she was named the Mary Rae Soper Award recipient which is presented to the female gymnast in recognition of their passion, dedication and devotion to the spirit of gymnastics.
TWU begins the season with their annual Intrasquad Meet on Dec. 2 at 7:00 p.m.
