PIONEERS ANNOUNCE 2006 GYMNASTICS SCHEDULE

DENTON , Texas – Texas Woman’s University gymnastics head coach Frank Kudlac announced the 2006 schedule which features five home meets and includes six top 20 opponents.

The Pioneers start the season with their annual Intrasquad meet on Dec. 2 at 7:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity for fans to see an exhibition and meet the team.

TWU begins the new year by hosting three meets. The first meet is a quadrangular with Utah State, LSU and Centenary on Jan. 15. The Pioneers welcome Wisconsin-Eau Claire, San Jose State and New Hampshire to the friendly confines of Magee Arena on Jan. 21. The last meet of the homestand is a triangular with Air Force and Oklahoma (Jan. 29).

Next, the Pioneers make a trio of road trips. After a dual at Midwest Independent Conference foe Southeast Missouri State (Feb. 4), the team travels to Logan, Utah. On Feb. 10, TWU competes against Utah State and Washington. After that is a meet with the reigning MIC champions at Illinois-Chicago on Feb. 18.

Then, TWU returns to Denton to host Southeast Missouri State, Iowa and Wisconsin-LaCrosse (Feb. 25). The Pioneers are back on the road for journeys to Oklahoma (March 3) and Centenary (March 12). On March 18, TWU concludes the regular season with a home tri-meet featuring BYU and Arizona on March 18.

Post-season competition includes the MIC Championships (March 25) hosted by Southeast Missouri State followed by the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships (April 13-15). Cornell University will host the USAG Championships for the second consecutive year at Newman Arena in Ithaca, N.Y.

TWU competes as an independent in the MIC and the NCAA South Central Region in gymnastics. In 2005, they finished second at both the MIC and USAG Championships. The 2006 squad is aiming for an eighth USAG national championship with TWU having won the team title seven times since 1993.
