DENTON,
Texas – Texas Woman’s University gymnastics
head coach Frank Kudlac, assistant coach Jackie Fain and senior
Rachel Goddard were named National Association of Collegiate
Gymnastics Coaches/Women Division II Central Region Coach of
the Year, Assistant Coach of the Year and Gymnast of the Year,
respectively.
The awards are voted on by the coaches in each division and region and announced
at the annual convention.
Kudlac has been at the helm of the Pioneers for 27 years. He was also recently
named the Sears TWU Coach of the Year at the fourth annual Greater Denton Sports
Commission (GDSC) Awards Banquet. Kudlac guided the squad to second place finishes
at the Midwest Independent Conference Championships and the USA Gymnastics
Collegiate National Championships this season. He also coached the co-national
champion on the uneven bars, Brisa Fuentes, a freshman from Denton. At the
USAG Championships, five gymnasts earned All-American status and Courtney Arno
received the Mary Rae Soper Award, an honor voted on by the participating coaches
and given to a female gymnast in recognition of her passion, dedication and
devotion to the spirit of gymnastics. During the 2005 season, two gymnasts
were named the conference gymnast of the week. Kudlac also saw his team break
individual and team school records on the uneven bars and balance beam this
year.
This
is the third Assistant Coach of the Year award for Fain. She also earned Midwest
Independent Conference and USA Gymnastics coaching accolades this season.
Goddard ended her Pioneer career with a successful senior campaign. She broke
the school record on the balance beam with a 9.925, which was part of a team
record in the victory over Utah State. At the MIC Championships, she tied that
mark to win the beam event. Goddard qualified for NCAA Regionals competition
on the floor exercise. She also earned MIC All-Conference, Scholastic All-Conference
and Gymnast of the Week and USAG Scholar Athlete recognition this year. Goddard
was the Denton Record-Chronicle Player of the Week in March and Gymnastics
Association of Texas Merit Award winner as well.
