REHM SELECTED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT FIRST TEAM
DENTON , Texas – Texas Woman’s University senior gymnast Bethany Rehm was named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-District VI College Division Women’s At-Large first team which honors success on the field of play and in the classroom.
The business major has a 3.71 grade point average. Rehm was selected as one of three captains for the Pioneers this season. She capped off her four-year career with a team and individual national championship in 2006. First, Rehm helped TWU capture its eighth USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championship before she ended the three-day competition by winning the individual title on the uneven bars. The Pioneers also won the 2006 Midwest Independent Conference title. She earned USAG all-America honors on the bars and MIC all-Conference second team recognition. Her freshman season, the Pioneers also won the USAG team title.
Rehm received the 2005-06 TWU Athletics President’s Award, the highest honor awarded to a current student-athlete, for demonstrating outstanding excellence in her sport, in the classroom and in the promotion of TWU Athletics. She was also recognized by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women as a Scholastic All-American and earned USAG Scholar-Athlete and All-Conference Scholastic honors.
Rehm is a member of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, the honor society for business, Sigma Beta Delta, the Athenian Honor Society and National Society for Collegiate Scholars in addition to the Student-Athlete Advisory committee. She has volunteered her time to help the United Way, Habitat for Humanity, Susan G. Komen Foundation, American Red Cross, Adopt a family and with Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
The Academic All-District Women’s At-Large Team is open to student-athletes participating in a variety of sports ranging from bowling to water polo. To be eligible, the nominee must be a starter or key reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). The nominee also must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and must have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution. CoSIDA members in District VI, which consists of schools with CoSIDA members in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas, then vote based on a combination of academic and athletic achievement. College Division includes NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA.
Each student-athlete named to the All-District team will advance for consideration for the 2006 CoSIDA Academic All-America College Division Women’s At-Large team, which is scheduled for release on June 15.
