SEASON-HIGHS ON VAULT AND FLOOR LEAD TWU
NORMAN , Okla. – Texas Woman’s University posted season-high scores on the vault and floor exercise to record a 191.275 but fell to No. 6 Oklahoma in a dual meet.
The Sooners won the meet with a 197.050 and captured the individual titles in every event.
“We didn’t hit all four events. Bars hurt us. The good news is we drop a 187 and replace it with a 191,” head coach Frank Kudlac said. “ Oklahoma is ranked sixth in the country and showed that tonight.”
The Pioneers started the meet on the uneven bars with a team score of 46.600. Courtney Arno finished sixth individually with a 9.725.
“We started on bars. Unfortunately we didn’t have a stellar bar time. No one fell but we had sloppy routines that didn’t score well,” Kudlac said. “We rocked vault. I am very proud of Brittany, Nicole and Nakia. They all did nice vaults.”
TWU moved to vault and posted a season-high team mark of 48.725. Four Pioneers posted career-highs led by Nakia Westbrook who finished tied for fourth place with a 9.875. Brittany Parker (9.800), Nicole Poling (9.800) and Kelsey Nixon (9.650) each added career bests as well.
Brisa Fuentes paced the team on the floor exercise to a season best 48.050 mark. Individually, Fuentes posted a 9.750 to finish sixth.
Tonya Pipkorn placed fifth on the balance beam with a career best 9.750. The Pioneers wrapped up the meet with a 47.900 tally.
Fuentes competed on all four events for the third time this season with an all-around score of 37.150.
“We went to floor and got the best score of the year. Everyone hit without any problems,” Kudlac added. “On beam the first two fell but the rest hit. I am proud of how we finished.”
Next up for TWU is a dual meet at Centenary on March 12 at 2:00 p.m.
