DENTON , Texas – Texas Woman’s University posted its best score of the season and finished second to No. 8 Oklahoma in a triangular meet in front of 1134, the largest home crowd ever in Magee Arena.
The Sooners won the meet with a score of 195.900 followed by the Pioneers (191.250) and Air Force Falcons (176.925). Individually, OU won every event and Brittney Schumann took the all-around title with a 39.425.
“It was a great afternoon for Pioneer gymnastics. We made history with our highest score of the year and the best attendance ever. We shattered our attendance record. I want to thank everyone who was a part of that,” head coach Frank Kudlac said. “TWU is heading in the right direction. We stepped up and performed today.”
TWU started on vault with a season-high 48.125. Brittany Parker led the squad with a 9.700. Nicole Poling and Brisa Fuentes each added a 9.650 as well.
Junior Courtney Arno continued to dominate the uneven bars with a 9.800. The Pioneers recorded a season-high 48.450 on the event.
On beam for the first time this season, Parker registered a score of 9.650 to pace TWU. The team posted a 47.300 season-best team mark.
The Pioneers finished on floor with a 47.375 team score. Amy Hulbert hit her routine for a 9.675. Brisa Fuentes added a 9.650.
“We have some very consistent people. Courtney is just solid as a rock. Brisa is still awesome. On floor, Amy has been steady,” Kudlac added. “Now we readjust for travel. The next three weeks in a row are on the road.”
The meet featured a special appearance by 2004 Olympic All-Around Champion Carly Patterson who signed autographs after the meet.
Next, TWU is at Midwest Independent Conference foe Southeast Missouri State on Feb. 4 at 2:00 p.m.
