PIONEER POST from Jennifer

Pioneer Post 1 -- Week of Oct. 11, 2004

We really appreciate you keeping up with us! My name is Jennifer Bolli and I am a senior. I am posting the first of the gymnastics journals for you to read this year to see what we have been up to so far this semester.

We started our first official practice a little over a month ago and workouts have been going very well. The upperclassmen are excited about the seven rookies and what they can bring to our team. The seven seniors and three coaches started off the year with a retreat to Lantana Lodge. We had a great time doing team-building activities and goal-setting. We had a beautiful view of Lake Ray Roberts while we relaxed in the sun and set our goals for the new year. As seniors, our goal is to come together as a team early in the year and be behind each other one hundred percent. Our team’s success at the end of the year will come when we reach all of our team goals.

We came back to campus for a rock climbing exercise which was really fun especially when Coach Jackie and Tim climbed to the top! On the second day we ended our retreat with a motivational speech from one of our own TWU professors, Dr. Bettye Myers. She had us take a deep look into our own leadership qualities as well as the qualities of each other. To continue building on what we learned at the retreat, the seniors meet every Tuesday for thirty minutes with our coaches and read through a leadership manual together.

We then had a team meeting to discuss our team goals. It went really well and we can already see that we have a strong team chemistry this year!

We have started practices very strong this year. In September, we ran three times a week beginning with two miles and working up to EIGHT miles by the end of the month! On October 1, we all woke up at 6 a.m. to pouring rain so the eight-mile run was postponed until later in the morning. Then Coach Kudlac’s wonderful wife Johnna and Coach Jackie had waffles, ham and fruit prepared for us.

Besides running we also swim and ride the bike for conditioning. We like to call ourselves tri-athletes! Now that September is over, we are doing more gymnastics and doing really well in the gym for being so early in the season.

We have a new coach assisting us this year and his name is Tim Rivera. He is from San Jose State where he coached gymnastics for three years. He has a coaching career of more than 20 years and he is an awesome bars coach. We are looking forward to what he can do for us this year! Go Bars!!!

On October 7, we added a new little Pioneer to our family when Coach Kudlac and his wife had a handsome baby boy named William Matthew. Sydney Kay is now a big sister and she just adores him!

We look forward to a great year and will keep you posted as we go along. TWU Gymnastics ROCKS!!!
