Post 15 -- Week of Feb. 14, 2005
This week our team traveled to Alaska to compete
against the University of Alaska-Anchorage. We only had two
practices before leaving on Wednesday morning to begin our
journey to Alaska. We had a really good time playing in the
snow, looking at the beautiful scenery and shopping!
On Thursday, we went to Alyeska Park and rode the tram
to the top of the mountain where we ate lunch. It snowed
all day on
Thursday (14 inches) so we couldn’t see as much as
we wished, but we still had a good time playing in the snow
and
making snowmen. That night we ate at the Sourdough Mining
Company where we entertained the staff with some Texas line
dancing!
On Friday, we got up, went shopping, and visited the largest
chocolate waterfall in the world before we had to compete.
Though we didn’t post the best team
score we all went out there and fought through our routines. We trailed the Seawolves
the whole meet and couldn’t seem to get ahead. We have so much talent on
this team but we just haven’t been able to put it all together in competition.
There were some awesome routines, but it is the falls that are hurting us.
On Saturday, we went ice fishing and shopping again! Ice fishing was quite
the experience having to bait our own lines and stand in the cold (-5 degrees)
waiting
for a fish. Once again we didn’t have the best meet, but we went into the
gym ready to do our best and you could see the confidence in our eyes. Though
we were ahead before the last event, we had too many falls to stay on top! As
a team we know we can do better and are frustrated with the mistakes we keep
making. We do so well in training but we just can’t seem to pull it all
together in all the meets. As soon as we figure it out we will be unstoppable.
On Sunday, we traveled all day back to get back to Denton! Alaska was a blast
and we had a great time bonding as a team! Next Sunday we travel to Oklahoma
to compete against OU, Missouri and Centenary!
Thanks for keeping up with us!!!
