Post 11 -- Week of Jan. 17, 2005
Hi
Everyone! This is Rachel and welcome to another Pioneer Post
installment.
We just kicked off the 2005 season on Saturday and it was
awesome to be out there again in front of our fans. The energy
was great in the gym not only from our fans but the team as
well. All my teammates were anxious to get out there and compete.
The seniors had their very last - first meet of our careers
and it was great to have that milestone with such a fun team.
Throughout the meet we kept our energy up and I thought we
looked good considering we just finished two weeks of two-a-days.
We started the meet on vault. It was great to begin on such
an explosive event! We still have room for improvement because
we are going to be upgrading from the vaults that were done
and everyone is excited for that!
Bars was the highlight of the night. We went seven-for-seven
and it felt great. Even our exhibitionist hit! It felt like
we were so much farther into the season by how we did.
We had a little trouble on the beam. I think the first two
events got us so excited we lost a little focus. We were disappointed
but had to focus on the fact that that event was over and we
had to rock on floor!
For the first meet of the year, floor went better than most
of us expected. We had falls but it was the first time in my
four years that everyone included all of their difficulty,
which was great to see. We worked so hard in the pre-season
that we came into two-a-days a lot farther ahead than in previous
years.
The great thing about this weekend, as Coach reminded us after
the meet, was that this is only the first step and we have
more chances to improve! Therefore, we are going into the gym
this week to work on mistakes and will be ready to rock in
Colorado!
We leave for our first away meet of 2005 on Friday and compete
Saturday night! We are all excited and training hard to improve
on our last performance.
School
also started this week and I can’t believe how
fast my final year is passing by. Our team grade point average
(3.61) was awesome last semester and I know this semester won’t
be any different. The professors here are understanding and
they are also big fans of our program and TWU athletics!
Stay
tuned to next week’s entry detailing our trip to
Colorado and don’t forget about our next home meet on
February 5th!
GO TWU! GO PIONEERS!
