PIONEERS FINISH FOURTH AT COMPETITIVE QUAD MEET
NORMAN , Okla. – The Texas Woman’s University gymnastics team ended up fourth against No. 9 Oklahoma, No. 29 Missouri and Midwest Independent Conference foe Centenary in a quadrangular meet at Norman , Okla.
The Sooners won the meet with a 196.500 followed by the Tigers (193.925), Ladies (192.075) and Pioneers (191.350).
TWU (1-8) started the meet on the balance beam. The Pioneers hit five of six routines without counting any falls. Courtney Arno led the way with a season high 9.70 score. Brittany Abney also hit for a 9.60 mark her best of the year as well.
“The beam was an improvement for us. Courtney was outstanding and Abney hit her routine again,” head coach Frank Kudlac said.
The Pioneers moved onto the floor exercise where senior Addi Hundley competed for the first time this season recording a career best 9.75.
The third event for TWU was the vault. Abney and Jessica Brozovich led the way with 9.825 and 9.75 scores, respectively.
“Uncharacteristically we had some problems on the vault. We didn’t have to count any falls but missed some vaults,” added Kudlac.
TWU ended the meet on the uneven bars where Arno placed third with a 9.75.
“I am proud of the team. We only had to count one fall on bars,” Kudlac said. “We weren’t full strength because of colds and are excited to be back home next week.”
The Pioneers host Air Force, Centenary and Illinois for a quad meet on Feb. 26 at 7:00 p.m. at Magee Arena.
