PIONEERS DEFEAT
SEMO, FALL TO NO. 8 BYU
DENTON , Texas –The
Texas Woman’s University gymnastics team had their best
meet of the season posting a 193.225 to defeat Midwest Independent
Conference foe Southeast Missouri State and fall to No. 8 BYU
in a triangular meet at Magee Arena.
The Cougars captured overall honors with a
score of 196.125. The Redhawks finished with a team tally of
192.250.
The Pioneers (1-3) had team and individual
season-high marks in every event. Courtney Arno finished tied
for third-place honors on uneven bars with a score of 9.725.
“This was a totally different
team tonight compared to our first two meets. We learned
from our mistakes and the last two weeks of training paid
off,”head coach Frank Kudlac said. “I am proud
of the whole team. We didn’t have to count a fall in
our score but we still have a long way to go and room for
improvement.”
TWU started the night with a score of 48.575
on vault. Jessica Brozovich and Brittany Abney paced the team
with 9.825 marks.
Next, they were solid on bars with a 48.00
team tally. On beam Lauren Kondikoff led the way with score
of 9.750 as the team earned a 47.925.
The Pioneers finished with a 48.725 on the
floor exercise. Rachel Goddard and Kondikoff each posted scores
of 9.850.
“It was a nice win over SEMO,
a conference opponent,”added Kudlac. “We are
excited about the trip to Alaska . They are going to be a
very hungry team.”
Up next for TWU is two dual meets with Alaska
. The Pioneers travel to Anchorage to compete with the Seawolves
on Feb. 11 th and 12 th beginning at 7:05 p.m.
