FOUR GYMNASTS SIGN WITH PIONEERS
DENTON,
Texas – Amie Boles, Amy Hulbert, Kelsey Nixon
and Tonya Pipkorn signed National Letters of Intent to join
the Texas Woman’s University gymnastics team for the
2005-06 season announced head coach Frank Kudlac.
“ I would say that athletically and academically this is the strongest gymnastics
class ever brought into TWU,” said Kudlac. “I am excited for them;
they have some big shoes to fill since we lose seven seniors this year. We will
also bring in one or two more gymnasts in the spring to have up to six new faces
next season.”
Hulbert and Pipkorn are both local athletes from Texas while Boles and Nixon
hail from Georgia.
“ I like to bring in out-of-state student-athletes to add diversity,” added
Kudlac. “We recruit nationwide but most of our efforts are in Texas.”
Boles has competed for the Georgia Gymnastics Academy – Lawrenceville
since 1998. An all-around gymnast, the Snellville, Ga. native specializes in
the beam and bars. In 2004, Boles earned fourth place in the all-around and
third on the vault at the Level 10 State meet. An active volunteer, she received
the Distinguished Service Award for Youth Volunteer of the Year in 2002 from
the Special Olympics in Georgia.
“ Amie really has her own unique gymnastics style,” said assistant
coach Jackie Fain. “She will continue to learn and excel in our program.”
Hulbert competes for the South Garland High School and Aerialworks gymnastics
squads. A native of Garland, Texas, she is a three-year letterwinner with her
senior season left as a Colonel. Hulbert led her high school team to a sixth
place finish at the 2004 state championships. She was named all-state in the
floor and beam events as well. At the 2004 USAG Junior Olympic Regionals, she
placed fourth in the all-around competition and second in the beam and qualified
for Nationals. Hulbert received numerous honors in 2004 including Elite All-American
accolades. A member of the National Honor Society, she was named to Who’s
Who Among High School Students.
“ Amy is a local kid who competes in high school and club which is quite
an undertaking, but she has the ability to do both,” said Kudlac.
Nixon competed for the Cobb Challenger Gymnastics (1994-2003) and World of
Gymnastics (2004). A four-time AAU National Qualifier, she was named to the
AAU National Team three times. Nixon was named MVP of her club from 2000-2003.
She is a leader for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a member of the
National Honor Society.
“ Kelsey is a very impressive all-around gymnast with really nice lines
and an artistic focus,” added Fain. “Amie and Kelsey will both fit
in very well to our program and feel at home.”
Pipkorn is a local product from Denton. She has competed for the Achievers
Gymnastics Center for nine years. Pipkorn joins her former teammate, freshman
Brisa Fuentes, at TWU. As a level nine gymnast, Pipkorn went to the Junior
Olympic Western Nationals and finished ninth in the all-around competition
and won the vault at regional competition.
“ I am excited to sign Tonya from here in Denton. She is the second athlete
that we’ve signed from Achievers,” said Kudlac. “It’s
wonderful to be able to sign quality gymnasts from our area who can stay close
to home, earn their education and competed in front of the hometown fans.”
