TWU BREAKS BAR RECORD ON SENIOR NIGHT
DENTON,
Texas – On an emotional Senior Night, the Texas
Woman’s University gymnastics team turned in their second
best performance of the year including a school-record effort
on the uneven bars against Auburn.
The Pioneers (4-15) dropped the meet to the Tigers (8-9), 194.450-195.525.
TWU had six gymnasts earn top honors individually including a sweep on the
bars event.
“I didn’t know what to expect on this senior night because of the
number of seniors we have. Emotions can run high and they certainly did but in
the right direction,” head coach Frank Kudlac said. “This team put
it together we counted one fall on beam but everything else was solid. This was
the best the bars team has ever done in last five years. Not only did the score
indicate it also but also performance wise. We just were rock solid and stuck
the dismounts.”
TWU started on the vault and tallied a 48.500 team score to lead the Tigers
after one rotation. Jessica Brozovich and Brittany Abney tied for third place
with a score of 9.750.
The second rotation was the bars. Jennifer Bolli (9.750), Erin MacNabb (9.875),
Brisa Fuentes (9.875), Bethany Rehm (9.850), Dana Giametta (9.825) and Courtney
Arno (9.875) combined to break the school record with a 49.300 team score.
MacNabb, Fuentes and Arno tied for first place honors as well.
The Pioneers posted a 48.150 team score on the balance beam despite counting
one fall. Arno led TWU with a career-best score of 9.875, good for a share
of second place in the event.
TWU finished the meet on the floor exercise with a 48.500. Bolli paced the
team with a 9.775 and Rachel Goddard added a 9.725 mark.
“Vault was solid but floor is still giving us some small problems. It is
nothing that can’t be fixed,” Kudlac added. “This was a great
meet to set us up for the week coming into conference. We have a lot of advantages
in hosting and being able to try and do our best. I was proud of the leadership
and attitude the seniors showed tonight.”
