FOURTH-RANKED TIGERS TOO MUCH FOR PIONEERS
DENTON,
Texas – The Texas Woman’s University gymnastics
team fell to No. 4 LSU, 191.425-196.800. The Tigers (13-3)
posted the highest score by a TWU (4-14) opponent this season.
“If you add a point and a half from falls to our score it is fairly respectable
score at home. I think this team has to learn how to get up in all conditions,
whether against the number 4 or 5 team or a rival. I told them not to worry about
scores, just hitting,” head coach Frank Kudlac said. “The good news
is we have a great scenario with spring break where we can just worry about training
and the little things.”
The Pioneers started on vault posting a 48.325 team score. Brittany Abney and
Nakia Westbrook each had 9.725 marks. Brisa Fuentes had a season-high score
of 9.550.
“I thought we started well on vault. The scores didn’t indicate that
but we had some of the best vault performances of the year,” Kudlac added. “Brittany
hit a very nice vault with a 10.0 start value and for the first
time
Nakia
hit
her
10.0
start value routine. I was real pleased with vault.”
On the uneven bars, Courtney Arno tallied a 9.775 to lead TWU to a 48.125 overall
score. Erin MacNabb added a 9.700.
The Pioneers ran into trouble on the balance
beam,
posting
a
46.850 which is their fourth lowest score this year. Arno had the top score
with a 9.650.
“We had a couple of small problems on bars but overall not bad,” Kudlac
said. “I think we fell a little on beam and it had a domino effect. We
just weren’t intense and when you are not intense and focused that is the
event that will get you.”
TWU finished the meet with a 48.125 score on the floor exercise. Rachel Goddard
led the way with a 9.825. Abney and Jennifer Bolli each earned a 9.800.
“I don’t know if it was let down from beam but we just didn’t
get over there (on floor) and execute the way we needed to. We had to count a
fall and I thought we were over that,” Kudlac stated.
Next, TWU hosts Auburn on March 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the last regular season
home meet on Senior Night.
“We are at home until Senior Night. I don’t think it could set up
any better for us with rest and training,” Kudlac added. “I am looking
forward to Saturday. We are a 193 and change team when we hit and that is what
we should be scoring.”
