PIONEERS FALL IN MATCH-UP WITH BRONCHOS

EDMOND , Okla. – Texas Woman’s University struggled on offense in a four-game loss, 15-30, 30-26, 18-30, 20-30, to the University of Central Oklahoma before 200 fans at Hamilton Field House.

Both the Pioneers (13-14, 5-2) Lone Star Conference losses are to the Bronchos who extended their winning streak to 12 matches. UCO took the first match-up in three games on Sept. 24.

“We played better than in our first meeting this season. We blocked well and limited their aces but were always on defense. We have to play a lot better to beat UCO,” head coach Shelly Barberee said. “We made hitting errors or just kept the ball in play instead of putting it down. You have to get kills to win.”

UCO took the first game by hitting .417 as a team. In game two, TWU took advantage of 10 Broncho hitting errors for the win. It was all UCO in games three and four as they took the match.

TWU hit .100 with 44 kills compared to a lofty .286 hitting percentage with 75 kills for UCO. The Pioneers recorded 11 total team blocks led by Ana Kordic with five assists. Robin Hawkins posted a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs. Libero Michele Villarreal had 17 digs.

Next, TWU plays at Cameron on Oct. 22 at 2:00 p.m.
