PIONEERS DEAL LADY SAVAGES FIRST CONFERENCE LOSS

DURANT, Okla. – Texas Woman’s University handed Southeastern Oklahoma State its first Lone Star Conference loss in three games.

The Pioneers (9-11, 3-1) hit .223 in the match to win 30-28, 30-22 and 30-25.

“This season we have started well then slowed down but tonight we didn’t do that. We played with more intensity throughout the match,” head coach Shelly Barberee said. “Overall it was a good match. We got the job done and are now tied for second place in the North division. This win is a real confidence booster.”

Robin Hawkins and Carley Messmer both had a double-double to pace the Pioneers. Hawkins notched 14 kills and 17 digs. Messmer recorded 40 set assists in addition to 12 digs. Kandis Schroeder and Nicole Everett also had double digit kills with 11 and 10, respectively. Sharon Schaffner added nine kills. As a team, TWU had seven aces and total blocks.

TWU begins a three-match homestand with Midwestern State on Oct. 4 at 7:00 p.m.
