BRONCHOS TAKE MATCH FROM PIONEERS IN THREE GAMES

ARGYLE, Texas -- In a match-up between the second and third place teams in the Lone Star Conference North Division, Central Oklahoma remained perfect in league play with a three-game win over Texas Woman’s University.

The match was moved from Magee Arena to Liberty Christian High School in nearby Argyle, Texas , because of fire code compliance problems. The Pioneers (7-10, 1-1) fell 27-30, 22-30 and 19-30 to the Bronchos.

“We fought in the first game but lost focus after that. It is hard to go into a game like that,” head coach Shelly Barberee said. “We got down and couldn’t come back. I am looking forward to our next conference matches because they are important.”

TWU out hit UCO, .224 to .185, in game one but that wasn’t enough for the win. In game two, the Pioneers were ahead 14-9 when a double-hit call by the referee resulted in a Broncho kill. UCO went on to score eight of the next 11 points to tie the game en route to a 2-0 lead.

Nicole Everett was the only Pioneer with more than 10 kills. She put down 12 balls while hitting .333. On defense, Robin Hawkins paced TWU with 14 digs.

The Pioneers travel to Texas Wesleyan on Sept. 27 for a non-conference match beginning at 7:00 p.m.
