PIONEERS DROP TWO TO CONCLUDE CROSSOVER TOURNAMENT

ABILENE , Texas – Texas Woman’s fell to Angelo State and Tarleton State to finish the Lone Star Crossover Tournament hosted by Abilene Christian.

“We came out ready to play in the first games and looked awesome. In the second game we didn’t play as good and mental mistakes hurt us,” head coach Shelly Barberee said. “We played flat throughout this whole tournament.”

TWU started the day with a four-game (31-29, 27-30, 24-30 and 11-30) loss to ASU. After winning game one on a Nicole Everett ace the Pioneers dropped the next three to the Rambelles.

Three Pioneers were in double-digit kills led by Robin Hawkins with 14. Lindsey McCutcheon and Kandis Schroeder added 12 and 10 put downs as well. Carley Messmer had 41 set assists as the team hit .148.

In the second match, TWU played Tarleton State for the third time this season. After winning the previous two matches, TWU fell to TSU in four games.

“We have to pick up the intensity. Michele (Villarreal) played solid defense and Kandis looked good as well,” Barberee added.

The Pioneers host Cameron on Sept. 22 at 7:00 p.m. in their first conference contest.
