PIONEERS DROP FIRST MATCH AT CROSSOVER

ABILENE , Texas – Texas Woman’s fell to Eastern New Mexico in five games to begin the Lone Star Conference Crossover Tournament hosted Abilene Christian.

The Pioneers (6-7) and Zias played a back and forth match for two hours that ended with ENMU taking game five, 18-16. After splitting the first two games, the last three were decided by a total of nine points (16-30, 30-23, 30-27, 26-30, 16-18).

“Overall my goal was to come and play hard as a team. Our teamwork is a step in the right direction but we still have to finish,” head coach Shelly Barberee said. “Trina (Berend) came in and was a big leader. Kandis (Schroeder) had a great game overall as well.”

Schroeder led three Pioneers in double-digit kills with 16. Nicole Everett and Berend added 15 and 11 put downs. Everett had 17 digs as well for a double-double. Carley Messmer ran the offense with 44 set assists.

TWU faces Angelo State at 9:00 a.m. and Tarleton State at 1:00 p.m. in day two of the crossover tomorrow.
