PIONEERS BEAT TEXANNS IN FIVE GAMES AFTER DELAY
STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The Texas Woman’s University volleyball team overcame a slow start to beat Tarleton State in five games, 8-30, 25-30, 30-27, 33-31 and 15-10, in non-conference action.
The Pioneers (5-4) encountered travel problems on the way to the match which delayed the start for over an hour. TSU took games one and two before TWU fought its way back into the match.
“It was a battle. There were over 600 people in the stands and it is hard to play at Tarleton,” head coach Shelly Barberee stated. “We had an awful time getting there. It wasn’t pretty but was a win in the end.”
Overall the Pioneer offense struggled as freshman Kandis Schroeder led the team with 16 kills while hitting .235. Robin Hawkins had her fifth straight double-double match this season with 10 kills and 13 digs. Lindsey McCutcheon recorded nine kills.
“Kandis was phenomenal. She played great as a freshman,” Barberee added.
TWU hosts a Quadrangular match on Sept. 10 with TSU, Southern Arkansas and Ouachita Baptist competing in the all day event. TWU hosts SAU in the first match of the day at 9:00 a.m. and OBU in the last at 4:30 p.m. All proceeds from the 4:30 p.m. match will go to the American Red Cross Hurricane 2005 Relief including proceeds from ticket sales, concessions and “GO TWU PIONEERS” spirit wristbands sales.
