PIONEERS TAKE TWO

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – A different Texas Woman’s University volleyball team showed up as the Pioneers won two matches to conclude play at the Southern Arkansas Tournament.

TWU (4-4) ended a three-match losing skid with victories over Arkansas-Monticello (30-23, 30-22, and 30-25) and Tarleton State (30-25, 30-15, and 30-17).

“It was a night and day difference in the way we looked today compared to yesterday,” head coach Shelly Barberee said. “We played much better as a team and looked awesome. Last night we talked for a while about what we needed to do. Overall I was really pleased with today.”

In the first match against Arkansas-Monticello the team hit .185 with 10 total blocks. Robin Hawkins paced the team with 17 kills and 17 digs while hitting .467.

The Pioneers hit at a .380 clip to beat the TexAnns. Hawkins hit an impressive .583 to lead the offense with 15 kills and 13 digs. Lindsey McCutcheon and Kandis Schroeder added 11 and nine kills, respectively. TWU served tough as well with 13 aces and only four errors.

TWU returns to the court with a midweek contest at Tarleton State on Sept. 7 at 7:00 p.m.
