TWU DROPS TWO MATCHES

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Texas Woman’s University volleyball team was defeated by Southern Arkansas and Ouachita Baptist in action at the Mule’s Cantina Classic hosted by Southern Arkansas.

The Pioneers (2-4) fell in three games to both opponents. SAU beat TWU, 20-30, 30-32 and 22-30, before OBU won 23-30, 27-30 and 20-30. This is the first time in eight meetings OBU has beat TWU.

“We should have beaten both these teams. We need to step up our defense and offense,” head coach Shelly Barberee said. “We need to get stronger mentally as well.”

TWU hit just over .100 in both matches. Robin Hawkins paced the team in both matches with double-double efforts. She had 11 kills and 11 digs against SAU. Hawkins added 11 kills and 20 digs in the loss to OBU.

The Pioneers conclude play at the tournament with matches against Arkansas-Monticello and Tarleton State on Sept. 3.
