PIONEERS WIN ONE OF TWO MATCHES

LAKEWOOD , Colo. – The Texas Woman’s University volleyball team defeated Chadron State before falling to New Mexico Highlands to conclude play at the Mile High Classic.

The Pioneers (2-2) dominated the Eagles with a .181 hitting percentage to win in three games (30-26, 30-15 and 30-26). Robin Hawkins notched a double-double with 16 kills and 28 digs.

“We played great ball. I was really pleased with the match against Chadron,” head coach Shelly Barberee said. “It was the best I have seen us play this year.”

Then the offense sputtered, hitting just .008, against the Cowgirls in a three-game loss (27-30, 15-30 and 11-30). Hawkins led the team with nine kills.

“We came back as a totally different team. We’ll see what we can do because we have potential,” Barberee added.

TWU returns to action at the Southern Arkansas Tournament on Sept. 2-3.
