TWU SHUT OUT AGAIN
COMMERCE, Texas – In adverse weather conditions Texas Woman’s University fell to Texas A&M-Commerce 3-0 in a key Lone Star Conference game.
Both teams are fighting for one of six seeds into the LSC postseason tournament. TWU ( 8-7-1 , 3-4) came into the game tied for fourth and Commerce ( 8-5-2 , 3-2-2 ) was sixth in the standings.
“We came out hard from the start but after their second goal didn’t compete. All the players that came in off the bench worked hard,” head coach Fleur Benatar said. “The conditions were not good but both teams had to deal with them. We were against the wind in the first half.”
For the third consecutive conference game the Pioneers failed to score. TWU took a total of seven shots and no corner kicks in the contest. The Lions took the lead at the 25:14 mark as Erin de Wolfe put a corner kick over the TWU defense into the back of the net.
Commerce added to their lead just 16 seconds into the second half. Bailey Geels took a pass off the opening kickoff and put it in. The Lions scored again when Melissa DoRemus headed in a de Wolfe corner kick.
Krista Elbert started in goal registering four saves in 45:00 minutes. Aly Vincent relieved her allowing two goals with one save.
TWU concludes regular season play at home with two LSC games. Up first is West Texas A&M on Oct. 28 at 7:00 p.m.
