PIONEERS AND RATTLERS END IN TIE
 DENTON , Texas – Texas Woman’s University and St. Mary’s University played to a 2-2 tie in non-conference action.
The Pioneers ( 8-6-1 ) were involved in an overtime game for the first time this season. The result marks the sixth tie in the program’s brief four-year history.
In the first half, St. Mary’s jumped out to an early lead with some help from TWU. The Rattlers team got credit for an own goal 3:01 into the game. St.Mary’s Deann Lopez added another goal 10 minutes later. Down 2-0, Amanda Odino scored right before halftime. With 11 seconds on the clock, Melissa Scott hit a streaking Odino who one-touched the ball in from the left wing for her third goal of the year.
TWU dominated the second half with 12 shots including a Natalie Grant goal. Grant tied the game with her third goal of the season at the 47:13 mark with a shot from the top of the box into the corner of the net. In the two overtime periods, the Rattlers took nine shots but Krista Elbert kept them out of the goal.
 “We were surprised by the own goal but rebounded. Amanda’s goal was awesome,” head coach Fleur Benatar said. “We had opportunities on free kicks. They had a lot of chances but Krista made the saves. I’ll take a tie over a loss.”
Next the Pioneers play at Texas A&M-Commerce on Oct. 23 at 12:00 p.m. in a key Lone Star Conference game.
