LACK OF OFFENSE COSTS PIONEERS
WEATHERFORD, Okla. -- For the fourth time this season Texas Woman’s University failed to score in a 2-0 loss at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Lone Star Conference action.
The Pioneers (8-6, 3-3) had eight goals in their last three contests before experiencing an offensive drought against Central Oklahoma on Oct. 14 and SWOSU today. On a windy afternoon, TWU out shot SWOSU 15 to 10 but didn’t find the back of the net.
“We had chances to score. The conditions were a factor as it was super windy,” head coach Fleur Benatar said. “It is very disheartening to know we could have been 4-2 in the conference. I am extremely disappointed.”
The Bulldogs first goal came at the 14:42 mark as Michelle Wilson put the ball in from the corner of the box. In the second half, SWOSU’s Emily Rodawalt went one-on-one with Aly Vincent and scored unassisted.
“Their first score was a long goal that floated over Krista (Elbert). Aly hesitated by going out and than stopping and coming back on their second goal,” Benatar added. “We are not the same team on the road. We have changed our attack to be more offensive but don’t finish.”
Amanda Odino and Emily Meinen paced the offensive effort with five and four shots, respectively. Elbert started in goal before Vincent relieved her after halftime.
Next, TWU hosts St. Mary’s in non-conference action on Oct. 21 at 4:00 p.m. at the UNT Rec Sports Complex.
