PIONEERS FALL TO BRONCHOS
DENTON, Texas – In a match-up between the top two teams in the Lone Star Conference, the University of Central Oklahoma got the best of Texas Woman’s University, 4-0, with four first half goals.
The Pioneers (8-5, 3-2) held the Bronchos (10-3, 4-0) scoreless in the second half but could not overcome the early deficit. TWU managed just seven shots in the contest with only two of those on goal.
“UCO came out fast and played hard. I am disappointed in how we played in the first half,” head coach Fleur Benatar said. “We played well and battled in the second half.”
The Bronchos scored less than five minutes into the game as Melissa Terry put a Meleia Bacon cross into the net. Less than four minutes later UCO added another goal.
The Bronchos recorded two more goals in the 32 nd and 39 th minutes before intermission. In the second half, TWU took six of their seven shots but none of those got past UCO keeper Rebekah Svensson.
The Pioneers did hold the advantage in corner kicks with six compared to four for the Bronchos. Freshman Aly Vincent started in goal and faced 14 shots with four goals allowed and five saves. Krista Elbert came in for Vincent in the second half and had six saves.
TWU continues conference play at Southwestern Oklahoma on Oct. 16 at 2:00 p.m.
