HILLTOPPERS EDGE PIONEERS, 2-1
DENTON , Texas – Texas Woman’s University fell to St. Edward’s University 1-2 in non-conference action before 218 fans.
The Hilltoppers scored the game winner in the second half against the Pioneers (5-4, 1-1). In a back and forth match-up, SEU took 13 shots compared to 10 for TWU.
“At halftime I told the team we could win 6-1 or lose 1-2. We chose the 1-2 dogfight,” head coach Fleur Benatar said. “Our effort and communication were poor. We need to be more consistent.”
SEU jumped on the board early as Megan Hedrick scored 13 minutes into the game. TWU responded with an Erica Butler goal at the 29:56 mark off a Natalie Grant assist. It was the second goal for Butler and the second assist for Grant this season. Hedrick scored again in the 63 rd minute to put the Hilltoppers ahead. Krista Elbert started in goal for the Pioneers recording eight saves.
TWU continues their homestand on Oct. 7 with a Lone Star Conference contest against East Central at 7:00 p.m.
