RECORDS FALL IN 14-0 WIN OVER TEXAS SOUTHERN
DENTON , Texas – Texas Woman’s University broke eight school records including a four goal effort from Jackie Necroto in a 14-0 win over Texas Southern.
With the victory, the Pioneers improve to 4-2 on the season which is their best start in the four-year history of the program. Third-year program Texas Southern struggled to contain the TWU offense.
“I am glad to have 4-2 record right now. It is exciting, we stepped up and got the win to head into conference play,” head coach Fleur Benatar said. “Everyone played well and contributed to the victory. It was good to score some goals and finish the sequences.”
Freshman Ashley Frazier started the scoring at the 7:28 mark with a goal off a Natalie Grant free kick. Frazier scored again less than 10 minutes later on an Erica Butler corner kick assist. Butler found the back of the net next with an unassisted breakaway goal. Britney Cochrum joined the attack before Emily Meinen scored back-to-back goals in 36 seconds. Meinen was aided by Necroto and Sharon Coronado in setting the record for the fastest consecutive goals. Necroto added two of her four goals to end the first half.
Ahead 8-0, the Pioneers continued to shoot and score in the second period. Grant, Cristina Arista, Krista Elbert and Meinen scored once in addition to two more Necroto goals. Aly Vincent picked up the win in goal for the Pioneers without facing a shot.
A total of eight records were broke including most goals by a player and team. Necroto set the points mark as well with five including her four goals and one assist. Natalie Harrison tied the assists record with two. The team also broke the points (22), assists (8) and shots (49) marks.
TWU has almost two weeks off before opening Lone Star Conference play at Angelo State on Sept. 23 at 4:00 p.m.
