PIONEERS SCORE FOUR TIMES FOR VICTORY

FORT WORTH , Texas – Three Pioneers found the back of the net as Texas Woman’s University beat Texas Wesleyan University 4-2 in non-conference action at Martin Field.

“We were able to come back and put them away,” head coach Fleur Benatar said. “We played good soccer and found the net.”

TWU (3-2) picked up their third win of the season with a potent offense. The Rams fell behind early when Romy Luna scored her second goal of the year with an assist from Cristina Arista at the 15:00 mark. Wesleyan tied the game up before halftime.

With the score 1-1, the Rams took the lead with a quick goal just 25 seconds into the second half. Mandy Lambert responded with a goal off a Breann Morris assist to tie the game back up. Christine Hornisher was the next Pioneer to find the back of the net with the aid of Melissa Scott. With eight minutes left in regulation, Lambert closed the door on the Rams with their help as Wesleyan deflected her cross for an own goal.

“Mandy and Romy stood out today. Mandy was on fire,” Benatar added. “Melissa worked hard as well.”

With four goals, TWU scored the most goals since a 4-1 win over Kansas Wesleyan in their inaugural season (2002).

Next the Pioneers host Texas Southern on Sept. 11 at 4:00 p.m.
