TWU DEFEATS NEWMAN

SPRINGFIELD , Mo. – The Texas Woman’s University soccer team beat Newman 1-0 in action hosted by Drury University.

Sophomore Romy Luna scored her first goal of the season in the first half at the 30:36 mark. The goal was all the Pioneer (2-2) defense needed for victory.

“We had a lot of opportunities but once again won by one, it should be by three or four,” head coach Fleur Benatar stated. “It seemed like we took a million shots. We dominated the game and got the win.”

Aly Vincent earned the shutout in the goal for TWU with eight saves. Cristina Arista was a catalyst in the middle for the Pioneers and paced the team with 10 shots.

TWU is back in action on Sept. 9 with a non-conference game at Texas Wesleyan at 7:00 p.m.
