CARDINALS CAPITILIZE TO BEAT PIONEERS
DENTON , Texas – Incarnate Word scored early and often to defeat Texas Woman’s University, 7-0, in their home opener.
The Pioneers (1-1) fell behind the early as the Cardinals (1-0) scored three goals in the first twenty minutes. Sophomore Barbara Butts did most of the damage for UIW scoring four goals in the game.
“I was disappointed in how we came out. We were flat and Incarnate Word capitalized,” head coach Fleur Benatar said. “We didn’t push the ball and our effort was poor. I am proud of the bench players for going in and creating opportunities. It was definitely a different team from yesterday and we have a lot to work on. It was disappointing to start our first home game like that; I know we are a better team.”
TWU managed just six shots compared to 24 for UIW. Krista Elbert started in goal recording three goals allowed and three saves. Aly Vincent entered at the 25:09 mark allowing four goals with three saves.
The Pioneers return to the pitch on Sept. 3 with a game at Drury beginning at 2:30 p.m.
