SOCCER STARTS UP WITH DELTA STATE AND INCARNATE WORD
 DENTON , Texas – The Texas Woman’s University soccer team begins the 2005 season with games against Delta State and Incarnate Word this weekend.
“We are excited to start this weekend and have a new system in place. We are going to have more players in the back with a 4-4-2 formation as opposed to a 4-3-3,” head coach Fleur Benatar said. “We have the right people to make the system work and depth off the bench. For the defense it will mean less work because it is more of a zone approach. The forwards will look to hold the ball as the midfielders attack. It has worked well in scrimmages so far.”
This is the fourth season for the TWU soccer program and Benatar. In 2004, the team finished with a 5-13-1 record overall and was 2-6-1 in the Lone Star Conference. The Pioneers return four all-Conference players in Erica Butler, Emily Meinen, Christine Hornisher and Breann Morris.
The Pioneers first game of the season is against Delta State on Saturday at Dallas Baptist University at 1:00 p.m. The Lady Statesmen were 18-6 last season. This is the first meeting between these two clubs.
TWU hosts Incarnate Word on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. at their temporary home field, the University of North Texas Rec Sports Complex. The Cardinals were 8-9 in 2004 which included a 2-1 win over the Pioneers.
“I am looking forward to the games. Delta State is a good opponent to start with and Incarnate Word will be tough,” Benatar added.
