FIVE
JOIN PIONEER SOCCER SQUAD
DENTON,
Texas – Texas Woman’s University head
soccer coach Fleur Benatar has added five players including
two from
Denton to her roster for the 2005 season.
Sharon Coronado, Ashley Frazier, Natalie Harrison, Jackie
Necroto and Alyson
Vincent are joining the Pioneers for the team’s fourth season.
Coronado hails from Lewisville, Texas, where she earned all-district honorable
mention honors a sophomore. She attended Frisco High School her junior year
and competed on the varsity team earning honorable mention accolades as well.
Coronado
currently plays for the Tejano ‘87 club team.
“
Sharon will provide depth to our defense. She has terrific speed and is a disciplined
player,” Benatar said. “She has a great attitude and will be
a significant asset to our team.”
An Arlington, Texas, native, Frazier attended Mansfield Summit High School. She
lettered in soccer for the Jaguars and earned honorable mention honors in 2004.
Frazier currently plays for the Tejano club team. Her hobbies include soccer,
shopping and traveling to Europe.
“
Ashley’s excellent ball skills and speed will be an offensive threat on
the outside at midfield and forward,” Benatar stated. “She is
a scrappy goal scorer and very determined to come in and make an immediate
impact
and score.”
Harrison was a defender for Denton High School. As a senior, she was named defensive
MVP, female Athlete of the Year and captain after receiving all-district 8-4A
second team honors as a junior. Harrison led the Broncos to state championships
in 2003 and 2004. She enjoys water skiing, reading and going outdoors.
“
Natalie will be fighting for a spot in our defense. She is a very tenacious player
who gives 110% all the time,” Benatar said. “She is very strong
and extremely good in the air. I am looking for her to step in and make an
impact.”
Necroto who calls Sugar Land, Texas, her home, graduated from Clements High and
is a transfer from Cisco Junior College. She was named all-region twice and also
earned all-American honors her sophomore year. Her hobbies include basketball,
football and pool.
“
Coming in from Cisco, a program that did very well, Jackie will bring a wealth
of experience to our team,” Benatar said. “She has an aggressive
style of play that will be a tremendous help to our offense. I am looking
for her to be a key player in the midfield.”
Vincent was a four-year varsity starter for Denton Billy Ryan High School
and was the valedictorian for 2005. The Denton native played every minute
of every
game last season, recording 158 saves and just 52 goals in the goal. She
also had six shutouts and was named the district 5-5A Most Valuable Goalkeeper.
In 2004, she won the same award in district 8-4A. Vincent is a member of
the
Dallas
Texans Red West ’86 club squad. A member of the National Honor Society,
she is also president of the German National Honor Society. She enjoys reading,
writing and cooking.
“
Aly is an all-district goalkeeper. She is coming in to compete for a starting
spot against two other keepers,” Benatar stated. “Aly’s
work rate and desire to be number one is unreal. I am looking forward to
seeing
the impact she will make on our team.”
The Pioneers start the 2005 season on August 27 with a non-conference game against
Delta State on the campus of Dallas Baptist in Dallas at 1:00 p.m.
