TWU OFFENSE SPUTTERS AGAINST
INCARNATE WORD
SAN ANTONIO,
Texas – The Texas Woman’s University
softball team managed just three hits in a non-conference game
with Incarnate Word.
The Pioneers (12-8, 2-2) fell 4-0 to the Cardinals (9-9) on
the heels of a four-game series at Texas A&M-Kingsville.
“I think the kids fought hard. We were flat after the Kingsville series,” head
coach Dianne Baker said. “We’ll have them at our place at end of
the season. Now we have to get back on track for Missouri Valley College on Wednesday
and get ready for Eastern New Mexico.”
UIW starter Jennifer Reed kept the Pioneers in check by inducing 14 ground
outs. Amanda Arnold hit a two-out double in the first inning but was left on
base. Sarah White singled with one out in the second but was forced out at
second base. Amanda Danesi singled in the fourth frame but was left at first
base as well.
Crystal Hankel (0-1) started in the circle for TWU and took the loss. In 2.1
innings of work, she allowed five hits and two runs. Amanda Chambless came
in on relief and gave up seven hits and two runs.
TWU returns home for the remainder of the week. Up first is a doubleheader
with Missouri Valley College on March 16 at 5/7 p.m. It will be “Hawaiian
Day” at Pioneer Field.
