HAWKINS WINS LONE STAR CONFERENCE SCHOLAR-ATHLETE AWARD
DENTON, Texas (June 15) – The annual Lone Star Conference Scholar-Athlete Award winners for 2006-07 were announced earlier this week, with 29 student-athletes honored by LSC officials.
Robin Hawkins (pictured), the senior team captain of the 2006 Texas Woman’s University Pioneers volleyball team, was the TWU recipient of a 2006-07 LSC Scholar-Athlete Award.
Each academic year, the LSC presents a Scholar-Athlete Award to one male and one female student-athlete at each member institution. These student-athletes are selected as representatives of the outstanding accomplishments in athletics, scholarship and leadership that are displayed on each LSC campus during the year.
To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have participated at least two years in their sport and must have exhausted their athletic eligibility.
Hawkins, a native of Flower Mound, Texas, played a major role in the Pioneers successful 2006 volleyball season. She led the team with 59 service aces, was second on the club with 379 digs, and received LSC North Division All-Conference Honorable mention recognition. Her strong play helped TWU to a 24-12 overall record (11-1 at home), a 7-6 mark in the Lone Star Conference North Division, and a fourth consecutive trip to the Lone Star Conference postseason volleyball tournament.
Hawkins also found academic prosperity during her senior campaign. She was chosen for the 2006 Lone Star Conference All-Academic volleyball team and received the 2007 TWU School of Management Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award. On May 12, she graduated from TWU with a B.A. in Marketing and a cumulative college GPA of 3.93. Beginning this fall, she will pursue her MBA at the Mays School of Business at Texas A&M University.
