WILLIAMSON TABBED ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS/MARKETING AND OPERATIONS
DENTON , Texas – Texas Woman’s University Director of Athletics Chalese Connors has announced that Margie Williamson has been named Assistant Director of Athletics/Marketing and Operations effective September 1.
“I am very excited about this new position and having Margie on board to assist me with marketing TWU Athletics as well as overseeing our home event operations,” Connors said. “She is a very professional, driven young administrator who thrives on challenges. I believe she’s an excellent complement to our staff.”
As the Assistant Director of Athletics/Marketing and Operations, Williamson is responsible for assisting the Director in planning and executing an effective, consistent and progressive approach to marketing the Pioneers. She will also be in charge of the operations of all athletics events scheduled in Magee Arena, the Pioneer Softball Field and the TWU Soccer Field.
“I am definitely excited about the opportunity to work in an administrative capacity for Chalese and TWU Athletics,” Williamson said. “I also consider it a privilege to work with the excellent coaching staff. I am looking forward to another successful season for the Pioneers.”
TWU, an NCAA Division II institution, competes in five varsity sports. Basketball, soccer, softball and volleyball compete in the Lone Star Conference and gymnastics competes as an independent. In 2005-06, all five sports advanced to the postseason in the same season for the first time in a decade.
There are approximately 80 student-athletes in the program each year. For 48 consecutive semesters (24 years), the combined grade point average of all student-athletes has never dropped below a 3.0.
Last season, Williamson was the Pioneers’ assistant basketball coach and served as the event administrator for gymnastics and softball. She is currently the summer program coordinator and is also pursuing her doctoral degree in sports administration at TWU.
Williamson was the head women’s basketball coach at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor before she resigned in June 2005 to return to school. She participated in campus activities, community service outreach and public relations in addition to her coaching duties.
A Deer Park, Texas native, Williamson was a four-year captain and starter at point guard for UMHB. After her playing career, she coached at Killeen, Crawford and Richland High Schools. Williamson was an assistant coach at Baylor University under Sonja Hogg for two years before taking over at UMHB in May 2000.
At UMHB, Williamson had a career record of 82-45 in five seasons at the helm. She took the Lady Crusaders, a member of the NCAA Division III American Southwest Conference, to the league tournament twice and was the ASC Coach of the Year in 2000-01. She also had 12 players selected to the all-academic conference team.
Williamson graduated from UMHB in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She earned her master’s degree in education with an emphasis in sport management from Baylor in 2002.
