TURNOVERS IMPAIR PIONEERS
EDMOND , Okla. – Texas Woman’s University shot well but couldn’t overcome 30 turnovers in a 54-68 loss to Central Oklahoma at Hamilton Field House.
The Pioneers (3-1) lost its first game of the year while the Bronchos (1-4) picked up its first win. TWU shot 46.7 percent (21-for-45) from the field but attempted a season-low eight free throws. UCO took advantage of the turnovers, converting the TWU miscues into 29 points.
“We lost because we turned the ball over. We didn’t make smart decisions,” head coach Rene Hanebutt said. “It was our worst effort of the season. We didn’t execute or defend.”
The Bronchos went on a 15-1 run at the 5:30 mark to take a 39-29 lead into halftime. UCO hit four three-pointers, a lay-up and free throw to end the first half. During that time span, TWU committed four turnovers.
TWU came out strong after intermission. An 11-0 run, including six points by Margaret Wimbish, put them ahead 40-39. UCO ended the rally with a lay-up and scored the next eight points en route to the win.
Ashley Browning led TWU on offense for the second consecutive game with 18 points. Courtney Colmer and Wimbish each added 11 points. Kristal Robeson had a team-high eight caroms.
Next, the Pioneers play at Northeastern State on Dec. 3 at 2:00 .
