PIONEERS FALL TO FLYERS
DENTON , Texas – The Oklahoma Flyers outscored Texas Woman’s University in the second half for a 75-70 win in an exhibition contest at Magee Arena.
“I feel like we came flat. In the game last week we shot well which set the tempo for the game. We didn’t shoot well today,” head coach Rene Hanebutt said. “We struggled in the second half and didn’t put ourselves in a position to win.”
In the first half, the lead changed seven times before TWU took a two-point lead into intermission. Margaret Wimbish and Courtney Colmer had 11 and 10 points to lead the Pioneers.
The Flyers built a 14-point lead with five minutes remaining in the game. At that point, the Pioneers mounted a comeback. First, Colmer scored five consecutive points with two free throws and a three-pointer. Then, Ashley Browning and Kelley Humphries added jumpers but the Flyers made five of six free throws to end the game.
Colmer finished with a game-high 21 points. Wimbish added 20 with four rebounds. Browning scored 16 points as well. Jennifer Schilb led the team with seven caroms.
TWU begins regular season play at the Midwestern State Classic on Nov. 18 against East Central at 5:00 p.m.
