BASKETBALL TIPS OFF SEASON ON NOV. 5

DENTON , Texas – The Texas Woman’s University 2005-06 basketball schedule features a balance of 12 home and 14 away games in head coach Rene Hanebutt’s first season at the helm.

The Pioneers open the season with exhibition contests against Southern Nazarene on Nov. 5 and the Oklahoma Flyers on Nov. 12, both starting at 2:00 p.m.

TWU will start the regular season at the Midwestern State Classic on Nov. 18-19 against East Central and St. Mary’s in Wichita Falls , Texas . The Pioneers’ home opener is Nov. 28 against non-conference foe Southern Arkansas at 6:00 p.m.

Next, the Pioneers travel north of the Red River to face Central Oklahoma (Dec. 1) and Northeastern State (Dec. 3) in Lone Star Conference crossover games which do not count in the LSC standings.

The team returns to the friendly confines of Magee Arena for back-to-back home contests. TWU will face a Division I opponent, Sam Houston State (Dec. 7), followed by Southeastern Oklahoma (Dec. 10).

The Pioneers will end the year on a road trip to south Texas to take on Incarnate Word (Dec. 18) and then Texas A&M-Kingsville (Dec. 29) for an early LSC South Division match-up.

TWU starts the new year with four games in eight days beginning with Incarnate Word coming to Denton on Jan. 2. That contest is followed by games at Cameron (Jan. 5) and at Southwestern Oklahoma (Jan. 7). TWU completes its series with TAMUK in a Jan. 9 home game.

After hosting a non-conference game with Texas A&M-Commerce (Jan. 12), which has moved to the North Division this year, the Pioneers continue with five weeks of traditional Thursday and Saturday league play beginning with a trip to Tarleton State (Jan. 19) and Midwestern State (Jan. 21). The next week, TWU hosts Angelo State (Jan. 26) and Abilene Christian (Jan. 28).

TWU travels to West Texas A&M (Feb. 2) and Eastern New Mexico (Feb. 4) before a four-game home stand. WTAMU (Feb. 9), ENMU (Feb. 11), TSU (Feb. 16) and MSU (Feb. 18) wrap up the Pioneers’ home schedule. They end the regular season on the road at ASU (Feb. 22) and ACU (Feb. 25).

The LSC Tournament starts on Feb. 28 with the top four teams in each division qualifying for postseason play. The single-elimination tournament concludes on March 3-4 at the site of the highest remaining seed in the South Division.
