WIMBISH EARNS ALL-LSC SOUTH DIVISION FIRST TEAM ACCOLADES

WimbishDENTON , Texas – Texas Woman’s University junior Margaret Wimbish was named to the all-conference South Division first team as the Lone Star Conference women’s basketball postseason awards were announced Monday by league officials.

Seniors Ashley Browning and Courtney Colmer also received honorable mention recognition by the LSC.

Wimbish is the first Pioneer since Rhonda Wilson in 1995-96 to earn first team honors. She was also named to the LSC All-Tournament Team for her effort in the postseason.

TWU (14-14, 6-8) had its best overall season in 16 years in head coach Rene Hanebutt’s first season at the helm.

Wimbish recorded 10 double-doubles in her first season at TWU. She averaged 18.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. A two-time South Division Player of the Week, Wimbish is ranked third in scoring and blocked shots and fourth in rebounding in the LSC. She had a season-high 33 points versus Texas A&M-Commerce and tore down 17 rebounds against St. Mary’s.

Browning ends her Pioneer career tied for the 15 th spot on the all-time scoring list with 702 points. She tallied three double-doubles with a season-best 29 points and 11 rebounds.

Colmer started all 28 games for TWU this year. She averaged 13.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.0 steals per contest.

A total of 41 student-athletes were recognized by the all-conference program, including at least one member from each of the 15 LSC women’s basketball teams. The awards are voted upon by the league coaches.
