TWU PICKS UP A WIN OVER MSU
WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Texas Woman’s University defeated Midwestern State, 67-58, in Lone Star Conference action at Stockton Court.
The Pioneers (10-6, 3-1) broke a two-game losing skid and ended the Mustangs (7-10, 1-3) three-game home winning streak.
“The team played really well on both ends. This was the most complete team game of the season,” head coach Rene Hanebutt said. “It was a total team win and the best game we have played in awhile.”
TWU shot 54 percent after intermission to shut the door on MSU. The Pioneers built a 62-54 lead with a 12-4 run late in the game.
TWU ended the contest by making five of six free throws down the stretch.
The Pioneer defense forced the Mustangs into shooting a season-low 26.4 percent from the field.
Margaret Wimbish led four Pioneers in double figures with a double-double. The junior scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Kristal Robeson added 17 points, nine boards and seven assists. Courtney Colmer had 15 points with eight caroms. Ashley Browning finished with 11 points.
“Kristal made some huge plays. She was fantastic. She controlled the game and was able to create and distribute within the offense,” Hanebutt added. “Courtney made some crucial three’s and got the momentum back for us.”
Next, TWU hosts Angelo State on Jan. 26 at 7:00 p.m. The game features a special performance by the Extreme Team at halftime.
