ROBESON RECORDS A DOUBLE-DOUBLE TO DEFEAT THE BULLDOGS
WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Texas Woman’s University defeated Southwestern Oklahoma State, 64-53, behind a double-double effort from Kristal Robeson.
TWU (8-4) was led by Robeson’s 23 points and 11 rebounds. SWOSU (6-7) tried to utilize a zone defense to negate the TWU offense.
“They played a zone defense. We haven’t seen a zone all year,” head coach Rene Hanebutt said. “We didn’t shoot well at the beginning but put it in later. They tried to keep Margaret (Wimbish) from catching the ball.”
The Pioneers took its first lead with 9:12 remaining in the first half. TWU built a six-point lead at intermission after a Courtney Colmer three-pointer.
TWU went on a 15-5 run out of halftime to take a 16-point lead. The Pioneers built a 20-point margin twice in the second half en route to the win.
“Ashley (Browning) did a great job on Julie Dawson. She didn’t score in the first half and finished with 10 points. I was really impressed with her defensive effort,” Hanebutt added. “We came out well offensively after our last game against Cameron.”
Colmer and Browning also scored in double figures with 14 and 10 points, respectively.
TWU returns home to host Texas A&M-Kingsville in Lone Star Conference action on Jan. 9 at 7:00 p.m. It is Club and Breast Cancer Awareness Night.
