FOUR
PIONEERS NAMED ALL-CONFERENCE IN SOCCER
DENTON,
Texas – The Lone Star Conference announced the
2004 All-Conference Soccer teams and four Texas Woman’s
University players were honored. Erica Butler earned second
team honors and Emily Meinen, Christine Hornisher and Breann
Morris received honorable mention accolades.
“I was glad to see that at least four players got recognized considering
we tied for eighth in the conference,” said head coach Fleur Benatar. “I
was hoping that Breann would be on the second team and Krista (Elbert) would
receive honorable mention credit. But these honors do recognize all their hard
work especially on a team that is only three years old.”
Butler, a junior, was named All-Conference for the second time in her career
but the first as a defender. In 2002, Butler earned second team honors as a
forward. Butler scored one goal for the Pioneers before turning her attention
to defense.
“ I am happy for Erica because she didn’t start the season as a defender;
we transferred her into that role. So that is really good. She definitely stood
out on defense,” added Benatar.
Meinen scored four goals for the Pioneers and took a team-high 32 shots. The
sophomore scored the game-winning goal against Southwestern Oklahoma State
in a 1-0 victory.
Hornisher, a sophomore forward, had three goals and one assist on the season.
“ Emily and Christine made an impact in each game so it was good to see
them recognized,” said Benatar.
Morris was solid this season as the center midfielder for TWU, pacing the offense
with key distributions and staying stalwart on defense. She took 14 shots including
four on goal.
