BRONCHOS TOO MUCH FOR PIONEERS
DENTON , Texas – The Texas Woman’s University soccer team fell to Central Oklahoma , 4-1, in Lone Star Conference action.
The Pioneers ( 5-11-1 , 2-5-1 ) stayed right with the Bronchos in the first half as the teams combined to take just eight shots. TWU held the upper hand with five of those but could not capitalize on the Bronchos mistakes.
“The first half was slow but I thought we dominated, they didn’t look like a first place (in the LSC) team,” said head coach Fleur Benatar, “Erica ( Butler ), Amanda (Odino) and Mandy (Lambert) did a good job today.”
UCO started the scoring at the 64:21 mark with two consecutive corner kicks within five minutes that were deflected in by the Pioneers.
“We scored two goals for them, it is disappointing to have your own players put them in,” added Benatar.
At the 73:56 mark, TWU missed a scoring opportunity when Mandy Lambert’s shot from in the box hit the post.
Down 2-0, sophomore Emily Meinen broke away and beat the goalkeeper from 15 yards out to bring TWU within a goal.
The Bronchos added two more goals to put the game out of reach.
UCO out shot TWU, 13-9, in the game and also took 14 corner kicks compared to three for the Pioneers.
Krista Elbert had six saves while allowing four goals.
The Pioneers fall to 1-2 all-time against the Bronchos on the pitch.
Next, TWU hosts Texas A&M-Commerce, Oct. 29, in their last home game of the season beginning at 7:00 p.m.
