BREAKS SAVES RECORD AS PIONEERS FALL
SAN ANTONIO,
Texas – The Texas Woman’s University
soccer team fell to Incarnate Word, 2-1, in non-conference
action.
“They
were a very strong physical team,” said head coach
Fleur Benatar, “We
had some chances at the end but didn’t find the net.”
The
Pioneers (3-7, 0-2) scored first in the 42nd minute when
sophomore Mandy Lambert found
the back of the net on a breakaway goal, her first of the season.
That
would be all the offense TWU could muster as the Cardinals
scored
twice in the second half en route to victory. Five minutes
into the second half,
IWU tied the game with a goal off a combination play and added another
goal ten minutes later.
The
Cardinals out shot the Pioneers, 27-8, in the game.
Freshman
Krista Elbert turned in another exceptional game in goal,
recording 16 saves, to break the school record of 11 saves
in one game held by
Sara Weaver.
“Krista
had an unbelievable game, she played awesome, and kept us
right in the game,” stated Benatar.
TWU
falls to 0-2 all-time against IUW.
“Emily
(Meinen) and Amanda (Odino) played well as the team overall
picked it up in the second half,” added Benatar.
Next
the Pioneers stay in San Antonio, Texas, to face St. Mary’s,
Oct. 3, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
