PIONEERS WIN 1-0

ALVA, Okla. – The Texas Woman’s University soccer team beat Northwestern Oklahoma State , 1-0, in non-conference action.

Junior Erica Butler scored in the 81st minute, her first goal of the season, off a Romy Luna assist to lead the Pioneers.

“The wind was a major factor in the game today,” said head coach Fleur Benatar, “The girls did a great job of overlooking the wind and just outplayed them.”

In the first half, TWU was with the wind and out shot the Rangers 11-3. The Pioneers were out shot in the second half, 7-10, but goalkeeper Krista Elbert had seven saves in the game. The Pioneers took 10 corner kicks compared to just one for NWOSU.

“Erica played outstanding and Christine was good up front,” added Benatar.

Next, TWU plays at Eastern New Mexico , Sept. 24, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
